Macan Mountain is a collective memory in between Indonesia and the Netherlands. A space where we see the world through the eyes of the Javan Tiger.
The Javan Tiger is a subspecies also known as Harimau Jawa or Macan (pronounced as ma-chan).
Macan got lost out of sight around 1976. Humans forced the tiger to flee to the mountainous forests in East Java, where it vanished into its sanctuary.
Until recently, when reports and rumours suggested a potential resurrection. Has the Javan Tiger returned? Or does tiger media merely reflect the haunting presence of extinct species? (read more)
